Momentum Growing for RESNET HERS Index – New State and Regional Builders Making Commitment to Marketing Their Homes HERS Index

An increasing number of builders are taking advantage of the RESNET HERS Index. Over the past month, builders in states ranging from Delaware to Washington have entered into Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with RESNET. In the MOUs the builders commit to having their homes energy rated by a certified RESNET rater and marketing their homes’ HERS Index.

The following are the new state and regional builders who have made the commitment in August 2011:

Charles Thomas Homes

Nebraska

Daybreak Community

Utah

Envision Homes

Montana

Great Traditions Homes

Ohio

Habitat for Humanity of Kent County

Michigan

Quail Homes

Oregon and Washington

Schell Brothers LLC

Delaware

TriState Habitat for Humanity

Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio

The intent of the MOUs is to raise consumers’ knowledge of new home energy performance by using RESNET’s HERS Index. This will clearly differentiate homes built by the local and regional and put competitive pressure on the new home industry in their markets to follow suit. It is expected that this agreement will serve as a model to other local and regional builders that would have positive outcomes for consumers, RESNET and the new home industry.

RESNET is interested in entering into similar agreements with other regional and local builders. Energy raters who have builder clients interested in entering into an agreement with RESNET should contact Steve Baden at sbaden@resnet.us

Pickens Plan Logo 1

Army:

As we move into the final Congressional push of the year, we've received some very good news: A new report by the National Petroleum Council (NPC) has affirmed other studies showing that not only do we have an abundance of natural gas in the United States, but we have so much natural gas that "projected supplies can meet any projected demand through [at least] 2035."

That means that a quarter of a century from now, we'll have as much natural gas available as we do today and our previous estimates of a "100 year supply" are extended for an additional 25 years.

The results of this study have an effect on just about every aspect of the Pickens Plan you have been working so hard to get Congress to adopt including:

-- economic (jobs and taxes)
-- environmental (lower emissions)
-- national security (reduce OPEC imports)

If you haven't already, I need you to contact your Member of Congress and your U.S. Senators and tell them that the National Petroleum Council study makes passage of the bipartisan NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1380 in the House and S. 1863 in the Senate) an absolute necessity. If you've already contacted them, please ask your friends and family to do so, as well.

Thanks,

- Boone
